Pratt Center for Continuing and Professional Studies (CCPS) Gallery will present “Courthouse Confessions – In Their Own Words,” a photography exhibition of work by CCPS instructor and longtime photojournalist Steven Hirsch. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, runs from August 31 – September 29, 2009.
Pratt Institute’s Media Arts Department has been renamed the Film/Video and Photography Department, effective July 1, 2009. The department, which is one of 15 degree programs within the Institute’s School of Art and Design, is located on Pratt’s Brooklyn campus.
Pratt Center for Continuing and Professional Studies (CCPS) Gallery will present “Eye on the Strand,” a group exhibition that features the work of the three winners and 20 finalists of Pratt, the Aperture Foundation, and Strand Book Store’s first-ever photography contest. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will run from July 15 – August 26, 2009 and will include creative photo representations of the Strand Book Store.
Pratt Institute President Thomas F. Schutte and The Board of Trustees of Pratt Institute will hold a dinner to celebrate the establishment of The Marc Rosen Distinguished Visiting Chair in Design on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at The Gramercy Park Hotel Roof at Two Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. The event will include a cocktail reception at 7 p.m. followed by dinner, and will celebrate the first endowed professorship in the history of Pratt Institute.
Pratt Institute department of fine arts graduate students Charlotte Meyer and Kris Scheifele won 2009 Joan Mitchell Fellowship Awards for their accomplishments in sculpture and painting, respectively. Through this award program, Meyer and Scheifele will each receive a $15,000 grant and will also participate in a group exhibition at the Cue Art Foundation in Chelsea, New York in spring of 2010.

Payment in full for non-credit and credit courses must be made with a credit card online or by fax, or paid at the time of registration in person or mailed with the registration form (with credit card, check or money order). The Registration Fee is $10 per course (for courses over $95). It is non-refundable unless classes are cancelled due to lack of enrollment. There is a $25 Facilities Fee for each 30-hour computer graphics course. We reserve the right to apply a $5 Processing Fee for each completed credit card transaction.
You can use Instant Enrollment to register for non-credit courses. Credit card payments are processed via a secure server, and confirmation is emailed to the student’s email address.

New York State requires that applicants for a real estate salesperson license must complete the 75-hour New York State Salesperson Course - RE-100. All applicants must also pass the state exam and have a sponsoring broker. To obtain a real estate broker license an applicant must be licensed as a salesperson for at least two years and complete the 45-hour New York State Broker Course - RE-101. Any salesperson who wishes to apply for a broker license but has only completed the 45-hour salesperson course is also required to complete the 30-hour New York State Supplementary Salesperson License Course - RE-100A. To meet New York State requirements you cannot miss more than 4.5 hours of class.
As of July 1, 2008, all licensed real estate salespeople and brokers are also required to complete 22.5 hours of continuing education courses every two years before renewing their license. The only exemptions are for attorneys who are also licensed real estate brokers and anyone who has been licensed as a broker continuously for at least 15 years (since May 1993). To receive credit for a course you cannot miss any classes.
The required textbook for RE-100 is Modern Real Estate Practice in New York-10th edition by Sam Irlander, Dearborn Publishing. The textbook for RE-101 is Modern Real Estate Practice in New York for Brokers-10th edition by Edith Lank, Dearborn Publishing. The textbook for RE-100A is 30-hour Remedial Course, 1st edition by Sam Irlander, Dearborn Publishing. All textbooks are available in the Pratt Institute bookstore, phone is (718-789-1105 ). Students should purchase the textbooks prior to the first day of class. Students should also bring a calculator to class.

7 AIA HSW LUs. All architecture forcibly impacts communities on every scale. Some build communities, some harm them. This seminar takes an in-depth look at the various aspects of zoning and its impact on architecture and the community. This course studies how zoning laws are created in order to minimize any negative aspect to the public health and examines scalar impacts on both small and large architectural plans. Areas of discussion include a detailed discussion on bulk, use, sky exposure plane, floor area ratios, and set-back requirements for rear and side yards that impact ventilation and light/ air for communities. We will also analyze how the public interest is balanced with private interest to safe-guard infrastructure needs of residential and commercial projects; show how the governmental review process is an important factor in maintaining/preserving public safety; and review the variance and process and how the community is able to respond to an architectural project and comment in public hearings and reviews. This class is intended as a sequel to the introductory course, but can stand alone for attendees already familiar with the basic zoning concepts. Topics include: brief overview of the history and evolution of zoning; technical aspects of zoning; zoning districts; use groups; bulk rules; floor area ratio; sky exposure plane; set backs; yard requirements; zoning requirements that preserve light and air; special zoning districts and their relationship to the needs of specific communities; City Planning Commission authorizations and special permits; how the zoning is amended, map and text changes; Board of Standards and appeals variances and special permits; Uniform Land Use Review procedure, the governmental and community review process; City Environmental Quality Review procedure; and identifying and assessing the potential impacts of discretionary zoning actions.
